Young Leaders FAQs

FAQs

I see that the Young Leaders are organizing a program within the World Affairs Council. Do I have to be a Young Leader member to attend?

No. Some Council programs are branded as “Young Leaders” since they are a part of YL initiatives with leadership from the YL Executive Committee. Unless advertised otherwise, anyone from the general public may attend YL programs.

How do I qualify as a Young Leader member?

Anyone under the age of 40 may join as a YL member. Our YL come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, backgrounds, industries, and educational experience.

As a member, am I required to attend a certain amount of programs?

No, as a member you are encouraged to attend whatever piques your interest. Enjoy as few or as many of the programs you would like. There is no time commitment or expectation set.

Do I have to register for programs that I want to attend?

Yes, regardless of whether the event requires payment or not, we need to know who will be there so that we can make appropriate accommodations. Please e-mail our Program Coordinator, Emily, at erives2@gsu.edu with any questions about programs or registration.

Is this just a way to socialize with other young professionals?

No. While building valuable connections with other young professionals is important, it is not the focus of the YL. Our purpose is to facilitate the development of future young and innovative global leaders. To that end, professional development and community leadership are our priorities.

I’m not sure if I am a current member. How do I check my status?

Annual dues expire exactly one year from date joined.  If you are unsure about your status, contact our Membership Manager, Alice, at adossche@gsu.edu or at 404-413-7030.
